Garlic is a special ingredient in Ukrainian cuisine, so it is clear why four hundred years ago the Ukrainians decided to infuse stiff drink with garlic. Having studied dozens of recipes of such tinctures (“nastoianka”) we have created a homemade stiff drink with garlic.

History of

Pervak

882-2014

Cold brew mead was created and widely spread in Kyiv Rus.
After making, this drink continued to work in oak barrels under the ground up to 40 years and had a total strength of 10-16% only.

Glorious Ukrainian Cossacks were presented with a distillation apparatus from the Genoese.
They poured cold brew mead into it and received the first distillate – Pervak foretype.

1590

Ukrainian pothouse and tavern keepers began not only to distill Cossacks’ stiff drinks, but also invented a way to diversify its taste.
Thus, first flavoured stiff drinks infused with various spices, garlic or horseradish appeared.

1762

Catherine II actively sends stiff drinks as a precious gift to her friends abroad.
Consequently, Gustav III, Frederick the Great, Valtaire, Carl Linnaeus and many other great figures of those time became the lovers of these stiff drinks.

2013

We began distilling Pervak at our distillery according to four recipes.
Each of them is the result of a centuries-long evolution of Ukrainian homemade stiff drinks, its crown.
